Gear Up for Epic Tussey Mountain Ski Trips at These 4 Local Shops

|

Whether you like to crush downhills or go big at the terrain park, Tussey Mountain is the go-to spot for Penn State University students. Located in Boalsburg just over 7 miles from RISE at State College, this 1,819-foot peak serves up high-quality skiing and snowboarding right here in Central Pennsylvania. With reasonably priced lift tickets and season passes – including deeply discounted passes for college students – and more than 38 skiable acres, there’s snow better place to get in your turns than Tussey Mountain. Here are four nearby ski shops to gear up for the 2021-22 season.

Rent or Buy?

First things first. Do you want to invest in your own gear or rent? It all depends on how many ski days you think you’ll pack into your season. If you’ll go just a time or two, you’re definitely better off renting. If you think you’ll be up at the mountain every chance you get, then you’ll definitely want to gear up. Our list gives you options for both renting and buying.

Tussey Mountain Rental Shop

Tussey Mountain rents out gear right at the slopes. You can rent a full set of gear – which includes skis or a snowboard, boots, helmet, and poles – or go the à-la-carte route. Whatever works for you.

Mountain Ski Shop

Located on the ground floor of the Tussey Mountain lodge, Mountain Ski Shop offers some killer deals on season-long rentals of used and new equipment – skis, snowboards, and boots. If you’re looking for a cheap way to get in your turns, this is your best bet. It’s also a fantastic spot to take any of your own gear for tune-ups or repairs.

Appalachian Outdoors

This State College shop on South Allen Street stocks everything you need for a season of boarding or skiing. Boards, skis, bindings, helmets, goggles, gloves, pants, jackets – you’ll find pretty much anything you could think of for all your winter and outdoor adventures. Appalachian has been a mainstay in State College for nearly 50 years, so you can get knowledgeable help here, too.

DICK’s Sporting Goods

This giant national chain, with a location right here in State College, has a solid selection of snow sports gear.

Apres-Worthy Amenities

When your days on the slopes are done, count on RISE at State College’s amazing amenities for your apres-ski festivities. From the club and game lounge to the hot tub, our common spaces rise to the occasion when it’s time to wind down from an adrenaline-packed day at the mountain.
